Soren de-Niz

Communications Intern Joined the Arts Council in September 2023

Soren de-Niz (they/them) is excited to be joining the Arts Council as the Fall 2023 Communications Intern. They graduated with an associate’s degree from the Community College of Allegheny County in May 2023 and are continuing their studies working towards a certificate in graphic design. As an artist of many mediums including design, music, and theater, Soren is most interested in experiencing behind the scenes of a major Pittsburgh arts nonprofit and how it can connect the artistic community. As a child of Mexican immigrants and a member of the LGBTQ+ community, Soren is very enthusiastic about the Arts Council’s initiatives that focus on diversifying the artists in the spotlight.

Apart from classes and the internship, Soren fills their free time with as many creative endeavors as can possibly fit in their schedule. Soren is very active in Pittsburgh’s theater community and participates as an actor, stage manager, director, and any other role that might be needed. They are also the founder and current creative director of Play On Words Podcast, an audio drama theatre company that started in December 2020 and has most recently collaborated with Food for Groundlings and the Pittsburgh New Works Festival. They also play original music in the local DIY music scene under the band name Paladin with their fiance and some longtime friends. Safe to say Soren is thrilled to continue being in the thick of the Pittsburgh arts community.
