Organization Member Benefits are Changing: HR Advisors to End After 3 Years


For many small and mid-sized arts and cultural organizations, access to a trained human resources professional can be challenging. Nonprofit employees wear many hats, and oftentimes, human resources responsibilities are coupled with other job functions like operations, IT, finance, advancement, and leadership. Without a dedicated and trained HR professional on staff, hiring, employee relations, and other issues can linger without being defused appropriately. 

In 2020, we launched a program aimed at filling that gap for organizations in our community. HR Advisors was funded by the Allegheny Regional Asset District with sustaining funds coming from an anonymous foundation, and provided a confidential HR resource for member organizations to contact any time through our knowledgeable partners at Compass Business Solutions. Access to this member-only benefit will end on December 31, 2022. 

We’re grateful for the connections HR Advisors has made during these last three years of uncertainty. Not too long after its launch, we were all unwillingly affected by the COVID-19 pandemic and subsequent closures. This worldwide change dramatically shifted the human resources needs of businesses and organizations, regardless of industry.  

The professionals at Compass Business Solutions didn’t skip a beat! Since then, we’ve hosted numerous virtual webinars on HR topics in response to the ever-changing needs of our member organizations. Most recently, we discussed the impact of the “Great Resignation” and explored how employers can create more inclusive work environments. 

Though the HR Advisors program is ending, our focus on providing useful resources to the arts and cultural sector in Southwestern Pennsylvania remains. In the meantime, organizations with budgets of less than $1 million are eligible to utilize our Volunteer Lawyer for the Arts and Business Volunteer for the Arts programs for additional human resources support. The application fee is $35 for member organizations or $50 for non-members. We are also exploring workshops and other training programs focusing on HR-related topics in 2023.
