A little bit about Patrick

What is your most memorable Pittsburgh art moment from the last decade?

Pittonkatonk in 2023, the spring I moved here. Seeing hip hop mixed with punk mixed with international music mixed with brass bands and everybody just having fun together–it was a very memorable and important experience for me.

What do you view as art that is not or has not traditionally been considered art?

Traditional American tattooing. Tattoos were the first art I ever collected when I thought that I would always remain nomadic enough that it wouldn't make sense for me to collect physical pieces to display in a home.

Whose work recently wowed you?

Wren HowisonSarika Goulatia, and Bill Miller. Their relationship to and approaches around process, concept, material, and technique–just beautiful.

What Pittsburgh arts space do you always recommend to visitors?

I like to give recommendations based on the kind of visitor and the kind of visit but I’d say my top three are Mattress FactoryTroy Hill Art Houses, and Maxo Vanka Murals in Millvale.

What are your strategies for surviving Pittsburgh's winter?

I try to dress appropriately and make sure I have the right gear. I got a vintage Levi’s jacket from a Vintage Mixer years ago that's been excellent.
