GPAC's Response to COVID-19
The Coronavirus 2019 (COVID-19) outbreak is sure to have an impact on our region’s arts and culture industry and economy. Like many of you, the Greater Pittsburgh Arts Council is monitoring the spread of the virus and planning for its impacts to our business activities and upcoming events. While at this time, there are no confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Allegheny County, we encourage everyone in our community to be prepared should the virus reach our region.
GPAC’s Response to COVID-19
At our facility, we are taking extra precautions to clean publicly used facilities, offices, bathrooms, elevators, etc. While we continue to follow CDC recommendations, we also encourage Arts Council staff to stay home in any instance of feeling unwell and encourage our guests to do the same. We have also ensured that our staff is prepared and comfortable to work remotely in lieu of an office closure. The Arts Council is prepared to cancel our public events or programs in the event of a COVID-19 outbreak in Allegheny County. A formal notice will be sent to our members and partners if this occurs.
If you are concerned about attending a future GPAC event, would like to initiate a refund, or have an event-related question, please contact Corey Carrington at ccarrington@pittsburghartscouncil.org for assistance.
Impacts of COVID-19 on the Arts
Along with other national leaders, we are working to understand the long-term effect the COVID-19 outbreak and subsequent quarantines may have on arts and culture activities, such as missed earned revenue from cancelled performances or lower attendance figures at museums, galleries, and events. If you’d like to share your concerns or the impact the COVID-19 outbreak has had on your organization, please email me directly at mswain@pittsburghartscouncil.org. I’d like to hear more about your experience.
