Artist Statement:
Laura is a multidisciplinary artist, who works primarily in drawing, painting, ceramics, and photographic media. She received her BFA (2018) from the Maryland Institute College of Art (MICA) in Photography.
She explores the relationships between place, land, and nature of Pennsylvania and the personal connections she has formed there through images, paintings, and poetry. She's interested in the meaning of and relationship to an environment when time has passed and physical distance becomes a barrier. She seeks to define the significance of our emotional connections to a place and how these connections evolve and impact our present.
Laura dove further into painting Pittsburgh during quarantine when she would drive and photograph the quiet city, bringing her photographs to life through paintings and drawings. Excited by the constant exploration and hometown connection, the Pittsburgh series continues to grow. When not painting the Pittsburgh landscape, she shifts to objects found in nature, such as fruits and florals.
