Financial Indicator Dashboard
Measuring and actively monitoring the health and sustainability of Allegheny County's nonprofit arts sector
Developed using software by EcoMap Technologies, ArtPulse analyzes and visualizes trends at both the organizational and sector levels. Data is compiled from public sources like IRS Form 990s, minimizing the need for manual entry, and is currently representative of 90 nonprofit organizations. ArtPulse provides annual comparisons that show whether key indicators are improving, holding steady, or declining as represented by the percentages to the right of category titles. The sector-level data seen below is made public to inform the field.

- Tier 1 Annual budgets less than $100,000

ArtPulse is a data tool that empowers organizations, strengthens capacity, and supports a more sustainable and transparent arts ecosystem.
The dashboard has been designed to fill a long-standing gap: the lack of clear, consistent data on nonprofit arts organizations’ finances, operations, and impact. Without this kind of information, it’s hard for organizations — and the funders and policymakers who support them — to understand sector health, spot risks, or plan for the future.
To help understand how information in ArtPulse is collected and categorized, we've provided a Methods tab at the top of the dashboard.
Organizations interested in receiving their personalized dashboard can contact Membership Director André Solomon at membership@pittsburghartscouncil.org. Individual organizational data remains private and secure, and each organization can choose where and with whom to share their reports.
ArtPulse is currently in a pilot phase. The Arts Council is actively collecting feedback to optimize the dashboard to benefit user experience and ensure accuracy. If you have feedback you'd like to submit, please do so using this online form.
