Morgan Overton (born 1993, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania) is a visual artist currently based in Pittsburgh. Her work focuses on amplifying the voices and visibility of historically silenced communities. Morgan's work is rooted in reclaiming visual narratives of how “Blackness” is conveyed -- by illustrating the beauty, humanity, and intersectionality of Black experiences. Morgan believes the arts serve as a powerful platform to challenge the viewer to think, and therefore act differently. She vibrantly creates in various mediums to honor the Nina Simone quote, "It is the artist's duty to reflect the times." Morgan strives to create works of art that will not only honor the past and present, but also live on timelessly.
Morgan’s work has been heavily featured and exhibited across Greater Pittsburgh: notably the Pittsburgh Steelers, Pittsburgh Pirates Charities, the International Free Expression Project, Carnegie Museum of Art, August Wilson African American Cultural Center, Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre, University of Pittsburgh, and Carnegie Mellon University. In addition, various social justice exhibits across the United States, namely The Whole 9 Gallery in Culver City, California. Her work has also been internationally exhibited in St. Paul de Vence, France, and Paris, France.
Morgan is also a proud member of Women of Visions, the longest running collective of contemporary African-American women artists.
From the University of Pittsburgh, Morgan earned a Masters in Social Work with a focus in Community Organizing and Social Action, and a Bachelor's in Psychology with a minor in Studio Art. In 2019, Morgan was inducted into the Pittsburgh Business Times' 30 under 30
