Office of Public Art announces new round of support for artist residencies in the public realm


Four Public Art Residencies to be Selected, deadline February 6, 2017

Pittsburgh PA - The Office of Public Art announced its latest round of opportunities for artists working in the public realm with a Request for Qualifications, deadline February 6, 2017. Working in collaboration with Welcoming Pittsburgh, the City of Pittsburgh Department of City Planning, and organizations that serve immigrant communities in Pittsburgh, Office of Public Art will host four artist residencies in the public realm, with four artists each collaborating with an organization in a two-year artist residency program. A $50,000 fee for two-year residency and $20,000 – 30,000 per creative project will be awarded. The deadline to submit qualifications is February 6, 2017 at 11:59pm.

The artist and organization will spend one year collaborating to develop and produce activities to engage the community, and the second year producing a creative project whose concept is generate through the first year of collaboration. The goal of these residencies is deep community engagement that results in a collaborative, creative project. Four organizations have been selected to participate in the program: Northern Area Multi-Service Center, United Somali Bantu of Greater Pittsburgh, Greater Pittsburgh Literacy Council, and the Bhutanese Community Association of Pittsburgh.

The Office of Public Art is hosting information sessions about the program (below) to review the program goals and application process with those interested in learning more. RSVPs are not required. Attendance is not required to submit an application. The content will be the same at each meeting. All questions asked during the info sessions will be summarized and uploaded to the project’s website at www.publicartpittsburgh.org within one week after the final information session.
