Greater Pittsburgh Arts Council Presents "Reframing"

Pittsburgh—June 7, 2019 – Greater Pittsburgh Arts Council will gather the Pittsburgh-area’s arts and culture community for its 2019 Annual Convening on Tuesday, June 18 at the David L. Lawrence Convention Center. Area artists, arts and culture employees, business leaders and individuals are encouraged to register for the conference-style event, which is welcoming nearly 30 local and national leaders to its panels. “It is our pleasure to serve the Pittsburgh arts community as the region’s advocate for the arts and offer a space for our community to network, learn and collaborate,” said Mitch Swain, CEO of the Greater Pittsburgh Arts Council. “During past convenings, we’ve focused on the challenges our community faces due to shifts in the political and societal landscape. Instead of focusing directly on these challenges, today we want to reframe the way we think about our professions.”

The 2019 Annual Convening, entitled Reframing, will kick off at noon with lunch and a discussion led by four special guest speakers: Anne Gregory of SLL Consulting, LLC; Tracie D. Hall of the Joyce Foundation; Ethan Joseph of Bloomberg Philanthropies; and Lisa Yancey of Yancey Consulting.

City of Pittsburgh Mayor William Peduto will also announce this year's Mayor's Award for Public Art, established in 2007 to acknowledge the power of public art to benefit the City of Pittsburgh economically, socially, and aesthetically.

Attendees will hear from experts in various fields during three tracks of afternoon breakout sessions, featuring a diverse group of panelists to learn about topics like merchandising and monetizing, equitable hiring practices, audience building and fundraising, and flipping the script on the “starving artist.”

The public can register for the 2019 Annual Convening at www.showclix.com/event/reframing. GPAC members receive a discount rate of $40, while general registration is $85 per person.

New this year, GPAC is celebrating the Pittsburgh arts community during an Arts After-Party, which is included with all convening tickets. Attendees can network with peers and community leaders while enjoying live music from local artists Beauty Slap and Soy Sos. Separate access to the after-party is available for purchase for $35 through June 17 or $45 at the door: www.showclix.com/event/arts-after-party.
