Greater Pittsburgh Arts Council announces new members to its Board of Directors


GPAC continues to strengthen the ties between the arts, business, and tourism sectors

PITTSBURGH, PA - The Greater Pittsburgh Arts Council welcomes new members to its Board of Directors: Tinsy Labrie, Vice President of Marketing for VisitPittsburgh; Dan Martin, Dean of the College of Fine Arts at Carnegie Mellon University; and Meena Mutyala, Vice President at Westinghouse.   This year’s Board officers are:  Joseph B. Smith, Senior Vice President at Dollar Bank, Board Chair;  John Camillus, Professor of Strategic Management, Joseph M. Katz Graduate School of Business, University of Pittsburgh, Executive Vice Chair;  Kathleen Mulcahy, Artist and co-founder, Pittsburgh Glass Center, Vice Chair;  janera solomon, Executive Director of the Kelly-Strayhorn Theater,  Vice Chair; James Wilkinson, CEO, Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra, Secreatry; and Victor Dozzi, CPA,  Partner, Crawford Ellenbogen LLC, Treasurer.

Their leadership increases our understanding of the region and our ability to be a stronger advocate and supporter of arts and culture.”   Greater Pittsburgh Arts Council, serving the entire Southwestern PA region, is the leading advocate for the region’s arts and culture communities.  With its diverse and broad membership comprised of both non-profit organizations and individual artists, GPAC galvanizes the community through well-timed advocacy at the state-level; resources the community through grants, technical support and training; and positions the arts as an important player in the economic and cultural vitality of our region.  Recent highlights include hosting over 1,000 arts delegates for the annual Americans for the Arts convention, and releasing an important study highlighting the critical role the arts play in job creation and economic vitality, the Arts, Culture, and Economic Prosperity report.

Bios for new Board Members

Tinsy Labrie

Tinsy Labrie is the Vice President of Marketing for VisitPittsburgh, the convention and tourism promotion agency for Pittsburgh and Allegheny County. Her past positions include Vice President of the Pittsburgh Symphony, Vice President of the Pittsburgh Penguins Hockey Team, and, during her tenure as a television producer in Washington DC, Member of the White House Press Corps.  Tinsy is a Certified Destination Marketing Executive (CDME) through the Destination Marketing Association International. She is a member of the board of Girl Scouts Western Pennsylvania and Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh Foundation's Transplantation Surgery Auxiliary.  She is a graduate of Saint Francis University, PA, (BA) and Syracuse University, NY, (MS).

Meena Mutyala

Meena Mutyala is Vice President, Automation, for Westinghouse Electric Company.   Prior to her current role, Ms. Mutyala was responsible for formulating and implementing strategies to pursue commercial nuclear power opportunities in India. In December 2009, she led the US Commercial Nuclear Trade Mission to India which had over thirty US organizations represented. Ms. Mutyala most recently served as Vice President of Product Management & Engineering for the Global Nuclear Fuel business of Westinghouse. She also held the position of Vice President of US Fuel with responsibility for marketing, sales and project management for the customer base in US and Asia.  Prior to that, Ms. Mutyala led the acquisition by Westinghouse of the global nuclear businesses of ABB and was Director, Mergers/ Acquisitions for the nuclear businesses of Westinghouse.

Ms. Mutyala holds a degree in physics from the Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IITM); a Master's in Engineering Sciences from Northwestern University in Chicago; and an MBA from the University of Pittsburgh.  She is married and has two children who now have their own careers. She is actively involved in non-profit activities in Pittsburgh & India.

Dan Martin

Prior to his appointment as Dean of Carnegie Mellon University’s College of Fine Arts, Dan served Director of the Institute for the Management of Creative Enterprises (IMCE), having joined the Carnegie Mellon faculty in 1992 to direct the Master of Arts Management Program.  Dan consults and presents workshops and master classes in arts management, organizational structure, information technology, board development and other topics at universities and organizations throughout the world.

Dan, a professor in the School of Drama, also is on the faculty of the Management and Development of Cultural and Artistic Organizations Program at the University of Bologna (Italy). Prior to joining the academic community in 1989 as Director of the Arts Management Program at The University of Akron (Ohio), Dan spent fourteen years in not-for-profit professional and educational theatre administration.   Dan holds an undergraduate degree in Theatre at Western Michigan University and an MFA in Performing Arts Management at Brooklyn College/City University of New York under Stephen Langley.
