Call for Nominations: Mayor's Award for Public Art
Greater Pittsburgh Arts Council seeks nominations for Mayor Peduto's 2018 public art award
March 8, 2018… Pittsburgh, PA…The Greater Pittsburgh Arts Council (GPAC), in collaboration with City of Pittsburgh Mayor William Peduto, seeks nominations for the Mayor’s Award for Public Art, which recognizes an individual or organization for their efforts toward the development of outstanding public art in the Greater Pittsburgh region. Mayor Peduto will select a finalist based on the quality and impact of the public art project or initiative. The 2018 award will be presented at the Greater Pittsburgh Art Council’s Annual Convening on May 8, 2018 and the David L. Lawrence Convention Center. The Mayor’s Award for Public Art was established in 2007 to acknowledge the power of public art to benefit the City of Pittsburgh economically, socially, and aesthetically. The award celebrates artists and those who are committed to supporting this important element of our community. Past winners include: Homewood Artist Residency (2015); Fiber Arts Guild, Knit the Bridge (2014); Toby Fraley, Fraley’s Robot Repairs (2012); Janet Zweig, 7:11AM 11.20.1979 79°55'W 40°27'N (2011); R.M. Fischer, Langley Observatory Clock (2009); and Tom Sarver, The Tom Museum (2007).
