Art on the Bluff: A walking tour of Duquesne University


Office of Public Art highlights architecture and public art on Duquesne University’s campus

Pittsburgh, PA - The Office of Public Art presents Art on the Bluff: A Walking Tour of Duquesne University on Friday, February 26, noon – 1p.m. This guided tour of Duquesne University’s campus will include the Richard King Mellon Hall of Science designed by famous modernist architect Ludwig Mies van der Rohe, the mural I Am Because We Are by Gerard Tonti, Ron Desmett’s sculpture The Spirit of Duquesne, and James Simon’s sculptural relief Uptown Rhythm. Guest speakers include:  Rachel Klipa from the Office of Public Art; artist James Simon; architectural historian Albert Tannler, and Gerard Tonti, artist. The tour is open to the public; to register, please visit www.publicartpittsburgh.org or call 412.391.20160 x237. Tickets in advance are $8, and $10 at the door. The Office of Public Art host a series of monthly walking tours, lectures, and other educational initiatives. Rachel Klipa, Manager of Community Engagement at the Office of Public Art shares, “This will be a fun tour. It’s great that both James Simon and Gerard Tonti will be present to talk about their work at Duquesne, and that we’ll have expert Albert Tannler to discuss Ludwig Mies van der Rohe’s work on campus.”
