State COVID-19 Restrictions Easing on April 4, but How Do these Changes Affect Performing Arts Venues & Theaters?

On Monday, March 15, Governor Tom Wolf announced the lifting of some COVID-19 restrictions, effective April 4. These changes include increasing capacity for entertainment facilities (casinos, theatres, and malls) to 75% occupancy. However, indoor event capacity restrictions remain at 25%. Social distancing and masking guidelines also remain in effect.

How can a theatre open at 75% capacity and still provide safe social distancing of at least 6 feet between patrons? And does the indoor event capacity restriction apply to theatre events?

Don't worry, we're confused too. That's why we are actively reaching out to state and local officials to clarify these new restrictions and how exactly they impact the arts sector. We will post developments on these changes as we receive new information.

UPDATE: Pennsylvania's COVID-19 restrictions will change on April 4. However, the 25% capacity restriction does remain in effect for indoor screenings, theaters, shows, plays, and other events.
