The Work
of Art Awards featured a variety of exciting and engaging
performances by Pittsburgh-based artists throughout. The New Hazlett
Theater, Children's Museum of Pittsburgh and even the outside walkway
between them, served as "stages" for the evening's entertainment.

Ceremony at the New Hazlett Theater
- Ave Maria
Choreographed by the highly innovative Dwight Rhoden, Ave Maria, a pas
de deux taken from a longer work called The Grapes of Wrath, is a duet
showcase. Poking impudent fun at the principle of pas de deux, Ave Maria is an
innovative piece full of body flutters, risky jumps, falls and lightening fast
movement phrases. The piece will be performed by Maribel
Modrono and Robert
Moore who dance locally with the Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre. | |

Unidos Step
Tango, a new tango collaboration with accordionist Vladimir Mallov,
violinist Annie Moger, and bassist Jeremy Sment "steps" out the box
to join Pittsburgh's Fuego: dancers, Carolina Loyola-Garcia and Eva Ramirez de
Arellano of Flamenco
Pittsburgh and featured flamenco guitarist, John Marcinizyn for an electrifying

Dragon Kung Fu and Lion Dance
Steel
Dragon Kung Fu and Lion Dance provide kung fu training that promotes
self-defense, health and cultural traditions. Training consists of a variety of
elements including: conditioning for strength and flexibility, kung fu (Ying Jow
Keun, a Shaolin-based style, and Baiyuan Tongbei Quan, a Wu Dong-based style),
Tumbling, Drumming and Lion Dance. Steel Dragon performs lion dance for a variety
of occasions. | |
