A selection of service programs, critical discourse forums, and commissioning organizations that offer resources to the field.

Creative Time:

Creative Time has commissioned innovative work in the public realm in New York City for over 30 years. In addition to commissions, they host an annual summit and artist presentations. Their website includes a complete archive of all of their projects and programs.

City of Pittsburgh Public Art Division:

Pittsburgh’s Public Art Division is housed at the Department of City Planning, led by Morton Brown, public art manager. Any existing or proposed work of art on City of Pittsburgh property is under the purview of this division and the Art Commission.

Public Art Dialogue:

Public Art Dialogue is a forum for critical discourse about the field of public art. The group is affiliated with the College Art Association and publishes an electronic newsletter.

Public Art Network:

PAN is a program of Americans for the Arts that serves public art professionals, artists, and communities seeking to develop public art initiatives. They host the only national, annual conference for public art, develop public art tools and resources, and provide an excellent listserv to their members. Their website is filled with public art information and resources. PAN also maintains a blog that covers a multitude of public art topics.

Regional Arts and Culture Council:

RACC is a nonprofit organization in Portland, OR that has a nationally recognized public art program. Visit their website to view their guidelines and policies for collections management, gift policies, public art in private development initiatives, and more.

Seattle Office of Arts and Culture:

Seattle’s public art program is known for its innovative programs and policies. Visit their website to review thier policies, public art plans, and a tour of the collection.
