Representative Mark Cohen will introduce Amendment 11215
to House Bill 2380, otherwise known as the Budget Bill,
to increase the appropriation for the Pennsylvania Council
on the Arts grants to arts organizations by an additional
$1.5 million. This supplementary increase, added to
the increase already requested by Governor Edward G.
Rendell in February, will raise the state appropriation
for Grants-to-the-Arts to $17.225 million. This funding
level will provide much-needed additional resources
next year as the PCA works to serve the people of Pennsylvania
through support for nonprofit arts organizations, arts
programs, and artists; arts in education; and continuing
investments in partnerships and initiatives. In 2007,
the Greater Pittsburgh Arts Council administered $283,931
of PCA funding through the Pennsylvania Partners in
the Arts to 81 artists and arts organizations in Allegheny
County.
