PA Partners Grantees 2011-12

The programs and projects below were supported by the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts, a state agency, through its regional arts funding partnership, Pennsylvania Partners in the Arts (PPA).  State government funding for the arts depends upon an annual appropriation by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania  and support from the National Endowment for the Arts, a federal agency.  PPA is administered in this region by the Greater Pittsburgh Arts Council.

Project Stream Grantees

These grants support arts events happening all around our region, hosted by artists, community groups, nonprofit organizations and more. Anyone can apply to run an art project in their community.

Aliquippa Players
$1,054 - To support the Aliquippa Players "Rising Stars Theatre Camp" summer program for youth

Alison Zapata
$992 - To produce 10 hands-on, art-making workshops focused on the importance of preserving urban forests

Anime' BOP!
$1,417 - To produce a music and dance collaborative performance with Mid-Atlantic Contemporary Ballet, including a free performance and demonstration for students

Art All Night Lawrenceville

$1,822 - To produce "Art All Night", a multi-disciplinary exhibit and performance event that invites anyone to showcase one artistic creation in an all-night show staged in an enormous, vacant warehouse

ArtUp (Artists Upstairs)
$1,417 - To produce "EGYPT and US", an outreach program of The Firefly Tunnel Project that extends the exhibit beyond the art museum to work directly with the community

Associated Artists of Butler
$1,230 - To support 10 monthly art exhibits at The Art Center offered free to the public

Balafon Pittsburgh
$1,214 - To support a dance program for teenage girls predominantly of African descent that will culminate in a live recital and stage performance with the company

Balmoral School of Piping
$1,619 - To support the fifth annual "Balmoral Classic Festival" by bringing the Scottish ensemble Breabach to perform at the festival

$1,417 - To present a pop up gallery, housed in a 20-foot moving truck, to different neighborhoods throughout Pittsburgh

$1,417 - To present "M3: Media Materials and Me", a series of art workshops for Garfield-based children

$1,154 - For "Multiplicity", a local artist showcase that will feature original choreography by Bodiography Contemporary Ballet dancers in collaboration with Autumn House Press poets

$607 - For the "Polish Hill Arts Festival", a neighborhood event that welcomes all Polish Hill residents and others with music, art and craft vendors, art-making activities, and music

Sembene - The Film and Arts Festival
$500 - To produce "Sembene", a film and art festival, as well as a season of film screenings

Program Stream Grantees

 These grants provide unrestricted support to nonprofit arts organizations in our region, so that they can create or present arts programs. This stream is by invitation only, for applicants who develop a solid history of funding in Project Stream (see above).
