PA Partners Grantees 2010-11

The programs and projects below were supported by the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts, a state agency, through its regional arts funding partnership, Pennsylvania Partners in the Arts (PPA).  State government funding for the arts depends upon an annual appropriation by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania  and support from the National Endowment for the Arts, a federal agency.  PPA is administered in this region by the Greater Pittsburgh Arts Council.

Project Stream Grantees

 

Gist Street Reading Series
$2280 - For Wood-Fired Words, a collaboration with UnSmoke Systems and Braddock Mayor John Fetterman.

 

Art All Night Lawrenceville
$2166 - For an all-night art show in a vacant Lawrenceville space.

 

SLB Radio Productions, Inc.
$2166 - For the Youth Expression Showcase, which features live music, poetry, essays and spoken word by young artists grades 5-12.

 

Studio Capezzuti
$2166 - For Puppets for Pittsburgh, a free puppet lending library that loans giant puppets to the non-profit community and hosts free community workshops to make puppets.

 

South Park Theatre
$2052 - To produce 5 children's theatre shows, in which 65 local children participate for nearly 9,000 attendees.

 

ArtUp (Artists Upstairs)
$1596 - For the Pittsburgh portion of "Firefly Tunnels," a workshop series and exhibition aimed at creating dialogue between artists in the United States and Egypt, under the direction of Tavia LaFollette.

 

The Legacy Arts Project
$1596 - To bring the national "Dance Africa" event to Pittsburgh and establish it officially in this region, using local dancers, drummers, and artists.

 

Dreams of Hope
$1482 - To create an original show, premier it in Pittsburgh and tour it 15-18 times to non-traditional venues throughout Allegheny County.

 

Pittsburgh Shakespeare in the Parks
$1482 - To present free performances of "Much Ado About Nothing" in local parks.

 

Future Tenant
$1368 - To engage residents of West Pittsburgh neighnorhoods through a rotating window installation series to be installed in vacant store fronts.

 

Pittsburgh Concert Chorale
$1368 - For two concert performances of Haydn's "The Creation" in March 2011, with three professional soloists and a full symphony orchestra.

 

Polish Hill Civic Association
$1368 - For a multidisciplinary arts festival in Polish Hill, including visual and performing arts as well as hands-on activities.

 

David Edwards
$1305 - For the creation of a series of workshops, in which children ages 4-12 will create hands on art learning toys and receive instruction on recycling and solar energy.

 

Associated Artists of Pittsburgh
$1254 - for 7-8 exhibition opportunities for members residing within 150 miles of Pittsburgh and present work to the Greater Pittsburgh region.

 

Lawrenceville Historical Society
$1254 - To present "Do Dah Days," the annual Stephen Foster Music & Heritage Festival in the Allegheny Cemetary.

 

Transitional Services, Inc.
$1254 - For the fourth annual Art Exhibit and Sale, which showcases the work of Pittsburgh artists with disabilities on the grounds of the Carnegie Library of Homestead.

 

Global Beats
$1026 - To present an outdoor world music event during Hispanic Heritage Month, as part of the Global Beats series.

 

Mary Miller Dance Company
$1026 - To create "Confluence- Triveni Sangam," a performance with the Namita Bodaji Dancers of Mumbai, India, to be performed in Point State Park during the Three Rivers Arts Festival.

 

Poor Yoricks Players
$1026 - To present a free and open to the public performance of "Macbeth" at the Tall Trees Amphitheatre in Monroeville, PA.

 

Samantha McDonough
$1026 - For the creation and implementation of "Art Out of the Box", a mobile art studio through which the artists will engage residents in several Pittsburgh neighborhoods.

 

Beth Corning
$988 - To create a show as part of the Glue Factory series, a dancetheater production engaging internationally-recognized performers over age 40, and offer special admission/lecture demonstration for senior citizens.

 

Art on Gist Street
$912 - To allow Mexican artist Luis Valui to paint a composition for Art on Gist Street.

 

Pittsburgh Metro Chapter SPEBSQSA
$500 - To produce a concert featuring an internationally known quartet and highly-regarded local babershop quartets.

 

Mt. Washington Community Development Corporation
$500 - For an art festival wherein residents work alongside artists to create public art using trash from an illegal dumpsite in their community.
