The Carol R. Brown Creative Achievement Awards honor the remarkable achievements of Carol R. Brown, one of Pittsburgh’s most important cultural leaders, who led the cultural and economic transformation of downtown Pittsburgh’s cultural district. The awards are part of Investing in Professional Artists: The Pittsburgh Region Artists Program jointly sponsored by The Pittsburgh Foundation and The Heinz Endowments.
Two awards of $15,000 are given annually to an established artist and an emerging artist in recognition of exemplary artistic achievements and promise for future work. Candidates are considered by nomination only and chosen by an independent panel of artists and arts leaders.
This year’s awardees are multi-disciplinary artist John Peña, Emerging Artist and poet Toi Derricotte, Established Artist. The event will include remarks by Carol R. Brown and the awardees, and recognition of all twenty-five artists who were nominated for the awards.
