BusinessSkills
for Artists Series (BFA)
About
the Series
Few artists have the luxury to work only in a creative environment,
away from the commercial and legal details involved with their art.
Artists can benefit by developing entrepreneurial, business-related
skills that enable them to turn their artistic vision into a sustaining
income.
Recognizing
that many artists receive no formal business education, the Greater
Pittsburgh Arts Council hosts the BusinessSkills For Artists
workshop series, designed to tailor business and legal skills
to the needs of the individual artist. Topics include intellectual
property law, contract law, portfolio presentation, operating
as a freelancer, selling work/finding an exhibition space in Pittsburgh
and more.
If you have
a topic in mind that you would like to see us address in this
workshop series, please email your suggestion to Susan
Blackman or call 412.391.2060 x226.

The following resources are available to artists through the Greater
Pittsburgh Arts Council.
Volunteer
Lawyers for the Arts - individual artists with an annual income
less than $25,000 per year can apply for free legal assistance
for an arts-related legal need.
Pittsburgh
Artist Registry - a resource promoting visual, literary, performing
and multi-disciplinary artists living in southwestern PA. The
registry is the only free on-line artist database in the region.
It provides a platform in which artists can expand their audience
and publicize their work. It connects artists to opportunities
by presenting their work in a searchable form for organizations,
curators, architects, developers, community organizations, individuals
and businesses.
Artist
Opportunities Listserv - a monthly listserv of national calls
for public art opportunities, local, regional and national calls
for exhibitions and professional development opportunities available
through the Greater Pittsburgh Arts Council.
Artist
Opportunity Grants - these grants help advance the careers
of individual artists by providing funds to support expenses related
to specific, extraordinary opportunities that have the potential
to significantly impact an artist's work and professional development.
