One of the hardest thing for students, researchers, members of the media, legislative staffers and arts advocates to find are relevant facts and figures that describe the arts and culture sector.  The Arts Council has compiled the following list based on the questions that we have been asked most often.

Business and Employment Data

  • 668,267 - The number of arts related businesses operating in the United States as of January 2010 according to Americans for the Arts' Creative Industries Reports.
  • 2.9 million - The number of individuals employed by arts related businesses operating in the United States as of January 2010 according to Americans for the Arts' Creative Industries Reports.
  • 25,455 - The number of arts related businesses operating in Pennsylvania as of January 2011 according to Americans for the Arts' Creative Industries Report for Pennsylvania .
  • 127,470 - The number of individuals employed by arts related businesses operating in Pennsylvania as of January 2011 according to Americans for the Arts' Creative Industries Report for Pennsylvania .

Arts Education Data

  • 91 - The number of points better on the SATs that that students who take four years of arts and music classes while in high school than students who took only one-half year or less according to The College Board (scores of 1070 vs. 979, respectively).
  • 93% - The percentage of Americans believe that the arts are vital to providing a well rounded education according to a 2005 Harris poll.

Educational Improvement Tax Credit (EITC) Data
