Advocacy is about communication, relationship building and storytelling. The more successful you are in each of these endeavors, the more successful your advocacy efforts are likely to be.

If their is a legislative issue of importance to you one of the most effective means of advocacy is to communicate with your legislators. After all, they are elected to represent the voice of their constituents in the legislative process and cannot do that unless they hear from you.

Groups with the potential to impact or be impacted by a particular issue or piece of legislation will be called to testify at public hearings. These hearings provide an excellent opportunity to make the case for your issue to multiple elected officials at the same time.
